Web Design II

There is no getting around exploring Dream Weaver on your own. This Blog can only tell you how to do so much. We created a basic template as a running theme throughout the site by using Dream Weaver. You can create tables and import pictures fairly easy by just utilizing the menu options at the top of the screen. Once you have a template you can save it as your index, then anytime you want to create a new page with that same template, just manipulate it to your liking and go to "save as..." and save it as something other than "index." We chose to develop these menu options/different pages: who we are, portfolio, campus, hypertext links, contact and home. However, you can do yours however you would like. This information is probably the most important to developing the theme, color scheme, and ideas involved with your website.

Portfolio

After we posted our papers to the presentations screen on web CT, the class read each individuals paper and then ranked them all. The five best papers were then edited and refined by the editorial group to be posted on our website uder "portfolio." Eventually our portfolio will contain the best papers from the three writing assignments over the course of the semester.

Web Design I

We are using the program Dream weaver which is a web, html editor. To download a free 30 trial day go to this link. Scroll down to where the free trial is. Now you create and manipulate a webpage. Booya!

Photographs II

We took approximately three photographs of each person and our photographer applied effects to a couple of each persons. Brightness, toning, and contrast were all manipulated for a more interesting final product. We each chose the picture or effect we liked the best to post to the website.

DONT FORGET TO VIEW THE COMMENTS ON EACH BLOG; THEY CONTAIN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND UPDATES ON THE INDIVIDUAL BLOGS THEY CORRESPOND TO.

Photographs

We took headshots of every student in the class. We were fortunate enough to have Vivian, a fine arts major, in out class. She had access to the photography studios in P building, and she snapped a few shots of each of us so we could pick the best ones. However, if no one like this exists in your class, an SFCC photography instucter would probably be happy to assist. P-125 is a good place to start; just tell the faculty member what you need.

Website Construction in Groups

We utilized our first class period almost soley devoted to the class website to review past class websites. We identified things we liked and disliked. Liked: student pictures with names attached, a digital/"computeresque" style template or webpage layout. Disliked: the idea of putting personal emails under "contact us."

The class also broke into several groups that were assigned to specific areas of the class website. The groups are: Contact us/this how-to blog, Website template design, Mission statement, Photography (one person), Editorial (for posted papers), and Who we are.

Mission Statement

Week 1:

After a class period of brainstorming they came up with a constitution style mission statement. The group wanted an element of creativity not just a formal paragraph. The outline is completed and further editing will occur later.

How To...

The above posts contain information about how we built our class website. It is a week by week journal of how our class created our website!
